This is a painting i was asked to do by a friend for her parents christmas, i painted it on a preprimed, pre-stretched canvas with acrylic paints.
What do you think?

  1. This is a fantastic painting. I like how the branches seem to frame the painting. I also like how you have done the clouds and mist that covers the mountian given the illusion of distance. Great work.

Im not good with locations, where is this from?

  2. How big is the painting and did you use oils? I would be interested to know what you think about your painting. For instance what do you think works/ does not work. It would really interesting to hear the artist's views. Is this your normal style? What artists are you inspired by? Look forward to seeing more work on here!

    1. Its painted in acrylic paint and is about 16" x 20". I find it quite hard sometimes to get the feel of dense woodlands, although i'm probably a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to detail! i almost have to say to myself, enough is enough! I'm trying very hard to be a bit more freer and expressive, i tend to describe my usual style as more impressionist. Artists i'm inspired by..... Georgia O'Keeffe, Molly Garnier, Jules Olitski and i have to say my tutor at college Siobhan o'Hehir! Beautiful painting by all of them. What artists do you like?

  3. Hi Lyns Did you paint this from a photo or on location?
The framework of branches gives the impression that it's the view from a window and it's very calming.
I'd be interested to know how you worked the greens. Did you mix the colours or use green paints?

  5. I really like this mainly cause you have your fixed view point but there's the branch creeping into it, really nice I'm sure they had a good Christmas well done! :)
