Heres a portrait of sir Ian Mckellen who I think is a great actor. I decided to draw him after seeing the photo and thinking "hmm ive never drew an old guy before" so I drew him. I drew the hair by laying down a middle tone where the hair would be, then I used an eraser to draw strands of white hair. Some of the pencil lines havent shown up because im not sure how to work my scanner correctly, but theirs not a lot of difference.
What do you think?
One word ...... wow!!
ReplyDeleteThanks again Lynsey.
Deletethats great greg! do you ever draw your family/friends ect? i find it s much more chalenging as you have to capture there personality in the pertrait! you should mayb give it a go!
ReplyDeletebut yeah i love drawing old people, i find the texture of there skin really interesting to look at and to draw and youv done a great job here!
Thanks Kirsty. Recently my brother asked me to draw a portrait of him and his girlfriend. I agree that it is much more challenging to draw someone you know. I think I did about 6 or 7 drawings of them before I was happy with it. I would like to see your portraits sometime.

When did you do this one Greg? It's great that you are putting stuff up for others to see and comment on. Keep it going!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot. I drew this one last week. Keep an eye on this blog, there's a lot of very talented artists here.
DeleteGreg this is really good work. You are very talented and it will be really interesting watching your skills develop on the course. How long did it take you to do this portrait?
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to you posting a portrait you've drawn from life - perhaps the one of your brother and his girlfriend?
Wow, thanks for such a nice comment Ann. I think it took me about 2 hours. I dont have my brothers portrait anymore, his girlfriend has it.
