Marchlands - The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh - Contemporary Art Since 1842

Marchlands - The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh - Contemporary Art Since 1842
Visited this exhibition today which ran alongside William Gillies' "Landscapes and Still Lives"
These two artists were near contemporaries at Edinburgh College of Art but their art could hardly have been more different. Johnstone's work is largely abstract whereas Gillies's work although not conservative is more representational of landscapes and still life.
The paintings and drawings of William Gillies were beautiful but for me it was the abstracts of William Johnstone, from his deep and dark self portrait to his colourful and lively Mandala which stole the show
The exhibition ends on 3rd March. If you're in Edinburgh definitely worth a visit
